First, don’t rely on Karen from your Facebook travel group. She means well, but she also thinks the moon landing was staged. Go straight to the source.
Open the airline’s app. It’s like having a friend who always tells you the truth, even when it stings. You’ll usually see a green checkmark or a red “cancelled” banner within seconds.
Chaos at Abu Dhabi airport: Indians among thousands stranded amid Iran
You can also check the Abu Dhabi Airport website or use flight tracker apps. I like FlightRadar24—it’s like playing a video game where you’re the air traffic controller, minus the pressure.
Here’s a pro tip: Google your specific flight number. For example, “EY101” or “EK123.” It’s faster than a magic eight ball and way more reliable.
What If Your Flight Actually Is Cancelled?
Okay, let’s say the worst happens. You open the app, and there it is: “Cancelled” in bold red letters. Take a breath. It’s not the end of the world—it’s just a plot twist.
Airlines are usually good about rebooking you. It’s like when you miss your bus and the next one shows up in ten minutes. Often, they’ll put you on another flight within a few hours.
If you’re stuck at the airport, don’t be shy about asking for a meal voucher. I once got a free sandwich and a coffee voucher after a delay. It wasn’t a five-star meal, but it felt like winning the lottery at 6 AM.
And here’s the golden rule: Never cancel your own ticket unless you’re talking to airline staff. That’s like breaking up with your date before they can cancel on you—pointless and messy.
