Think of Easter Monday as the hangover day of the holiday weekend. Most big supermarkets and chain stores will be open, but often with reduced hours. You might find a “holiday schedule” in place, meaning they open later and close earlier. It’s like the store is saying, “We’re here, but we’re taking it easy, same as you.”
Smaller, independent shops are the real riddle. That quirky bookshop on the corner? The family-run bakery? They might be closed, enjoying a well-deserved break. Don’t assume they’ll be open just because the big box retailer down the road is. It’s a good idea to check their social media pages first—or just peek through the window and wave.
Why It’s Actually Kind of Cool
Here’s a fun thought: having a day where some things are closed is like hitting the pause button on our always-on world. It forces you to plan ahead, or better yet, improvise. Remember when you had to actually wait for things? Easter Monday brings back a tiny bit of that feeling, but without the panic.
It also makes shopping feel more like a treasure hunt. If you find a café open that serves a perfect latte, you almost feel like you’ve won. That’s the magic of a holiday schedule—it turns a routine errand into a small adventure. "Oh, they’re open? Score!"

Compare it to Black Friday, where everything is frantic and on sale. Easter Monday is the chill opposite. It’s a day where you’re allowed to be aimless. If you find a shop open, great. If not, you can just take a walk, nap off the chocolate, or stare at the clouds. Productivity is optional.
