First, you need to be 60 or over (shocker, right?). You can apply online through Transport for London’s website. You’ll need a passport-style photo and proof of age—like a passport or driving license. Easy, right? Well, mostly. Just don’t leave it to the last minute, because the card takes around two to three weeks to arrive.
One little catch: the pass works on buses and trams anytime, but on the Tube, Overground, and DLR, it’s only free after 9:00 AM on weekdays. Is that annoying? Maybe a bit. But think of it as a gentle nudge to sleep in for once. You’ve earned a lazy morning.

The “But I don’t live in London” blues
Worried you’re not a Londoner? Relax—you don’t have to live in the city to apply. As long as you’re a UK resident and live in a London borough, you’re eligible. So if you’re from Surrey but pop into London for day trips, this pass is your best mate. How cool is that?
For those not in a London borough, there’s the English National Concessionary Travel Scheme, but that’s a different story. This one is for the red buses and double-deckers. Where else can you see a man playing a trumpet on the upper deck at 10 AM? Only in London.
