Brooklyn's also got a rich history, with plenty of influential figures who've called the borough home. Take Norman Mailer, for example, who wrote extensively about the city and its people. Or Walt Whitman, who penned some of his most famous poems in Brooklyn, and is still celebrated as one of the borough's most beloved literary icons.
And let's not forget Jean-Michel Basquiat, the legendary artist who got his start in Brooklyn's graffiti scene. His vibrant murals can still be spotted around the borough, adding a splash of color and energy to the urban landscape. Basquiat's legacy continues to inspire a new generation of Brooklyn-based artists, who are pushing the boundaries of art and creativity in their own unique ways.
