In the Daddy’s Home universe, Griff is Dusty Mayron’s (Wahlberg) friend and co-worker at the car dealership. But that’s like saying a raccoon is “just a neighbor”—technically true, but missing the glorious chaos. He’s the guy who gives terrible advice with total confidence, like telling Brad (Ferrell) to fight back by dying his hair. It’s ridiculous, and you buy it completely.
The magic is in how Hannibal Buress delivers every line. He has this detached, sleepy-eyed energy that makes you feel like he’s in on a joke you haven’t figured out yet. You know that feeling when your friend says something so weird you just stare at them? That’s Griff’s entire vibe.
The Stealth MVP of the Sequel
If you thought Griff was good in the first movie, wait until you see Daddy’s Home 2. Honestly, the sequel is a hot mess of holiday cheer and John Cena yelling, but Griff? He’s a polished gem in a pile of tinsel. He gets more screen time, and he uses it to drop some of the most brilliantly off-kilter observations.
Remember the scene where he’s explaining the “meat sweats” to the kids? Or when he casually suggests that Santa might have an affair with Karen (Linda Cardellini)? It’s so wrong, yet delivered with such flat sincerity that you choke on your popcorn. That’s the Buress specialty: making the absurd sound like common sense.

He’s the guy who turns a holiday family dinner into a surrealist comedy sketch, and nobody even blinks. It’s a superpower, I swear. (Side note: can we get a spin-off where Griff just gives life advice? I’d watch that over a documentary about penguins any day.)
