Look in your system tray—that little cluster of icons near the clock on your taskbar. You’ll see an orange, rounded square with a white “A” inside. That’s your Avast.
Right-click that bad boy. A menu will pop up. This is where the magic happens. Don’t be shy—give it a good, firm right-click.
You’ll see an option that says something like “Avast Shields Control”. Hover over it. Don’t click yet! Just hover. Feel the power.
Choose Your “Disable” Duration
Now you get a sub-menu. It’s like a choose-your-own-adventure for lazy security. You’ll see options like: Disable for 10 minutes, 1 hour, Until computer is restarted, or Permanently.
Do not pick “Permanently.” That’s like taking the seatbelt out of your car because you’re only driving to the mailbox. You’ll forget. You’ll get a virus. Your computer will cry.
Pick “10 minutes” or “1 hour”. This is the sweet spot. Long enough to install your thing, short enough that you won’t wander into a malware swamp. I usually do 10 minutes. It’s like a timer for my own good.
