A nonstop flight from Denver (DEN) to Los Angeles (LAX) takes about 2 hours and 45 minutes in the air. But if you’re heading to San Francisco (SFO), you’ll be looking at roughly 2 hours and 20 minutes. Southern California is just a little further south, so it adds a few extra minutes.
Of course, that’s just the flying part. You’ve got to factor in boarding, taxiing, and waiting for your bags. Realistically, plan for four to five hours from curb to curb.
Why So Fast? (It’s Basically a Short Hop)
Here’s the cool part: Denver sits right in the middle of the country, and California stretches from the Oregon border down to Mexico. In a car, that’s a 16-hour slog through deserts and mountains. In a plane, you’re zipping over it faster than you can watch The Godfather.
Compare it to driving from Denver to, say, Vail. That’s a 2-hour drive. So flying to Los Angeles is actually shorter than a snowy ski commute in a car! Crazy, right?
