Here’s a mind-bender: if you lined up all 600+ Home Bargains stores in a row, they’d stretch for about 100 miles. That’s longer than the M25, but with way more parking spaces and a lot less traffic. Imagine trying to find the loo roll aisle in that queue.
Also, if each store sells an average of 1,000 jelly beans a day (and I’ve done no research on this, but let’s assume), that’s 600,000 jelly beans bouncing around the UK every single day. That’s the kind of statistic that should make you smile—or at least make you crave a bag of them.
So, What’s the Magic Number?
Right now, the answer is over 600, but check back next month and it’ll probably be 605. The company is opening stores faster than I can finish a bag of their own-brand crisps (which is fast, because those things are dangerously tasty).
They’re everywhere. And while that might sound a bit terrifying if you hate shopping, for most of us it’s a wonderful thing. It means more chances to grab a pack of 24 toilet rolls for a fiver, or a seasonal candle that smells like “Autumn Cuddle” (whatever that means).
