Oh, absolutely not. A single bus ride in London is £1.75, no matter how far you go. And the bus driver doesn’t care if you’re crying because you missed your stop. The Tube is faster, but the bus is the budget hero we don’t deserve.
But here’s the irony: the Tube price per mile is actually lower than a bus if you go far enough. So if you’re traveling from Zone 4 to Zone 1, the Tube wins and you get to see rats on the tracks. Double win.
The Peak vs. Off-Peak Grudge Match
London Transport loves a good rules lawyering session. Peak hours are Monday–Friday, 6:30–9:30 AM and 4:00–7:00 PM. Outside that? It’s off-peak, and everything gets slightly cheaper. The difference? About 30p to £1.00 per trip.
If you’re a tourist, you’ll likely be traveling off-peak anyway. Unless your plan is to ride the Tube at 8 AM for the full “commuter armpit experience.” Then you pay extra for the body heat.
