This one is for serious buildup. Baking soda is abrasive. It physically scrubs the minerals off your hair strands.
Mix one tablespoon of baking soda with three tablespoons of water. Make a paste. Massage it gently into your wet hair—focus on your roots and scalp.
Be careful, though. Baking soda can be drying. So only do this once a week. Overdo it, and your hair will feel like a haystack made of angry straws.
Quirky Side Note
Baking soda is also great for cleaning your shower. It removes hard water stains from tiles. Weirdly, your hair and your bathroom tile have the exact same enemy. That’s hilarious if you think about it.
