First, never over-steam. A bun that’s been in steam for three minutes isn’t a bun—it’s a sad, limp ghost. You want warmth, not a spa treatment. Second, always serve immediately. Steamed buns cool down fast, so have your hot dog ready to go before you steam. Coordination matters, people.
Third, avoid pre-slicing the bun if you can. Steam makes a pre-sliced bun split open like a clam. Slide your knife in after steaming. Your sausage will thank you by not falling out onto your lap. (I have the stain to prove it.)
Lastly, use fresh or day-old buns, not the ones that have been in your pantry for three weeks. Steam can’t perform miracles. It’s a steamer, not a wizard. Call a wizard if you have mold issues.
