I cannot stress this enough: the parks here are genuinely lovely. Stanborough Lakes? Perfect for a Sunday stroll with an overpriced ice cream. The Alban Way? It’s a walking path that cuts through woods, fields, and the occasional suspicious-looking bush. Very British.
There are actual deer roaming around Hatfield House grounds, and you can visit for free. Paris has the Eiffel Tower; Hatfield has deer with attitude. I know which I prefer.
And the summer? When the sun comes out, Hatfield transforms. Picnics on the grass, BBQs that definitely aren’t allowed but everyone does, and that weird smell of cut grass mixed with regret from the night before. It feels alive.
The Warts (Because It’s Not All Fairy Dust)
Let’s not pretend. Hatfield has problems. The nightlife is… patchy. You’ve got a Wetherspoon’s and a few bars, but don’t expect a club scene unless you’re into sticky floors and the same twenty people. The town centre is a bit clinical—too many chain shops, not enough character.
Also, the traffic. Did I mention the roundabouts? I did. But I’ll say it again: they haunt my dreams. And the council seems to have a vendetta against any road that stays quiet for more than a week.
