Witham is surrounded by fields and parks. There’s the river Brain (yes, that’s its real name—don’t laugh) that runs through town. You can walk along it, watch the ducks argue, and pretend you’re in a countryside retreat instead of a commuter town.
And then there’s Rickstones Field. It’s a big open grass area where kids kick footballs and dogs chase squirrels. I once saw a man flying a kite there on a Tuesday. Just because. No reason needed. It’s that kind of place.

Food that doesn’t disappoint
You might think a small town has limited food options, but Witham surprises you. There’s a brilliant Indian restaurant called Bengal Spice where the naan bread is the size of your head. And a fish and chip shop where the batter is always just the right amount of crispy.
My friend Sarah moved here from Birmingham and was worried about missing good takeaway. Now she swears the local pizza place makes a better Margherita than any chain. “It’s the cheese,” she insists. “They don’t hold back.” Little things, right?
