Part of the confusion comes from the fact that we rarely call zucchini by its full, fancy name. In some parts of the world, it’s called courgette, which sounds like a fancy little hat. In the U.S., we just say “zucchini,” and we forget it’s basically a cucumber’s show-off cousin.
Another reason we doubt is that zucchini is green and long, while many other squashes are orange and round. But guess what? There are yellow zucchinis and round zucchinis too! They’re just shape-shifters. The universe is testing us.
Really, the doubt is just a sign that we care too much. We want to label everything perfectly. But nature doesn’t care about our labels. Nature just wants to grow weird, delicious, watery green tubes and call it a day.
