France’s GIGN (Groupe d’Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale) are the guys you call when a hijacker has a bomb and a bad attitude. They once stopped a plane hijacking in 1976 by basically running toward gunfire, which is not a normal career choice.
Their training includes hostage rescue simulations in a fake airplane that’s actually a moving train on a set. If you throw up from motion sickness, you get promoted to folding parachutes. They also eat a lot of cheese and bread, because they are French, and even special forces need baguettes.
