Quick test: next time you get a glass of tap water, give it a sniff. Does it smell like bleach? That’s chlorine, doing its job. Does it smell like a wet dog? That might be manganese or iron in your pipes. Does it smell like cucumbers? No? Well, some people say very pure water has a faint cucumber note—but that’s rare.
Most of the time, your water smells like nothing. And that’s actually a good thing. If you can smell something strong, it usually means something is off. Boring water is safe water.
