Most Lions Sunday home games kick off at 1:00 PM Eastern Time. That’s the sweet spot for early-afternoon chaos. But—and this is a big, fluffy “but”—not all games are created equal.
Sometimes, the NFL gods smile on us and give us a 4:25 PM slot. That’s the “premier” window, where you can enjoy two games before the Lions even start. And if you’re really lucky, you might get a Sunday Night Football slot at 8:20 PM. That’s prime time, baby, and it comes with extra stress and zero chill.
But wait—there’s more! International games, bye weeks, and the occasional Monday night or Thursday night special can throw a wrench in your plans. The key is this: always check the official schedule. Your calendar app is not your enemy; it’s your co-pilot.
How to Find the Exact Time (Without Losing Your Mind)
You could Google it, but that’s so 2010. Instead, try the NFL’s official website or—my personal favorite—the Detroit Lions’ own site. They post times like it’s their only job, and they’re pretty good at it. Just don’t trust that one guy on Twitter who says “source: trust me.” He’s probably a cat.
Another pro tip: set a reminder on your phone for the day before. Write “LIONS SUNDAY” in all caps. Add a lion emoji if you’re feeling fancy. Then, when the alarm goes off, you can high-five yourself for being a proactive fan. It’s the little wins, you know?
And hey, if you’re traveling or visiting family, factor in time zones. The Lions play in Eastern Time, so if you’re out west, the 1:00 PM game starts at 10:00 AM. That’s brunch o’clock, and you’ll need mimosas to survive the fourth quarter. No judgment.
