If you want the bonafide, no-doubt-about-it, they-are-together moment, it happens in Episode 15 of Season 4, “Prom Night at Hater High.” Yes, prom. Lucas asks Peyton to prom. He wears that ridiculous but somehow perfect white tux. She wears a red dress. And they dance.
But the real payoff? After prom, they drive off together. They literally leave everyone behind. Brooke is peacing out to LA. Haley’s all married. Nathan’s doing his thing. And Lucas and Peyton? They drive down that long road in his old Camaro. It’s symbolic. It’s cinematic. It’s the first time they’re truly, unquestionably a duo.
But Wait—There’s More Drama
Of course, being Lucas and Peyton, they can’t just be happy. Season 5 is a mess. He marries Lindsay! Lindsey! Who is basically a blonde Peyton knockoff. You will scream at your TV. I sure did. They don’t get back together until way later in Season 5, during the infamous “you’re a celebrity, I’m a girl from Tree Hill” argument.

That moment happens in Season 5, Episode 12, “Hundred.” Lucas runs after Peyton in the rain (of course it’s raining). He says, “I choose you.” And that’s it. No more false starts. No more Brooke. No more Lindsay. It’s Leyton forever.
