So he stuffed the meat into bread with salad and sauce. Boom. The German döner sandwich was born. Today, Germany consumes more döner than Turkey. Seventy percent of Turkish immigrants in Germany work in the kebab industry. It’s an economic love story wrapped in flatbread.
